Fonds consists of miscellaneous papers consisting of manuscript and notes, n.d.; manuscripts of letters, articles and memoirs, n.d., 1965-1973; memoirs, 1975, 1975-1978; and a speech, 1976. Also included are printed programme of a Finnish Organization of Canada Festival, 1939; a poem by Jussi Latva, typescript, 1945; newspaper clippings, 1976, ca. 1975; and scrapbook, 1976-1977.

Säilä, Vilho, 1886-1980 : Vilho Säilä born in the parish of Alastaro, Finland. Apprenticed at the age of fourteen to his uncle, Säilä began to acquire the skills of a master tailor. Säilä immigrated to Canada in 1907, taking up permanent residence in Toronto. He became associated with Iso Paja ("The Big Shop"), a Finnish tailoring cooperative established by Jaakko Lintala and Jussi Ranta in Toronto in 1904. The tailors of Iso Paja at that time constituted a driving force in the affairs of the Finnish Society of Toronto [now Local No. 1 of the Finnish Organization of Canada].

Säilä was elected National Secretary of Canada (FSOC) in 1912. He was succeeded by J.W. Ahlqvist in 1913. Thereafter, Säilä served in various other capacities on national and local executive bodies of the FSOC and its successor organizations.
