Fonds consists of drafts of manuscripts of books, pamphlets and essays by Mary Shearwood (neé Henderson), n.d., 1937-1947; and material relating to Bishop Jervois Arthur Newnham, Shearwood's brother-in-law, for whom she wrote a biography, n.d., 1879-1896.

Shearwood, Mary Howard, 1869-1962 : Mary Howard Shearwood, née Henderson, was a sister-in-law of Bishop Newnham, Anglican Bishop of Moosenee from 1893-1903. She obtained a B.A. from McGill University in the 1880s and was married to a prominent Montreal engineer, Frederick Percy Shearwood, in 1890. Frederick Shearwood was a designing engineer for the Dominion Bridge Company and a notable naval architect. Mary Shearwood published two books: a biography of Bishop Newnham entitled "By Water and the Word", 1943, and a history of the Dominion Bridge Company entitled "Whence Came This Dominion Bridge That Spans the Dominion of Canada," (ca. 1937). She also published many short stories and articles in various periodicals.
