Fonds consists of a manuscript of an unpublished book by Cumberland Clark entitled "Canada" written for the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation in 1927. It is bound in book form to be published with title page, preface, index, maps and illustrations, and a list of Clark's previous publications. It is based on a trip he made across Canada in the mid 1920s, but contains few personal comments of what he saw. It describes Canada's history, geography, climate, people and economic development, and its place in the British Empire. The book was written with the aim of encouraging British immigration to Canada, and points out the opportunities available in different parts of the country.

Clark, Cumberland, 1862-1941 : Cumberland Clark, born in 1862 at London, was educated at King's College of the University of London and in Sydney Australia, where he lived for many years. Clark was an author, journalist, dramatist and lecturer, and a recognized authority on Shakespeare, on whom he gave many lectures including many to the Chalcot Society. He was member of the Royal Empire Society, a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman for the two companies, the Loriners and the Painters.

He published some 50 books on literary criticism, history, and poetry. Some are: Australia Up to Date, 1937; Britain Overseas, 1924; The Curse of Communism, 1926; Shakespeare and Costume, 1937; Shakespeare and the National Character, 1932; Dickens and Talfound, 1919; and the Golden Song Book in 1932. Several of his books of literary criticism are still in print.
