There are also descriptions of the forced march of "A" and "C" Companies of the Battalion from Swift Current to Saskatchewan Landing and the descent of the South Saskatchewan River by the steamer Northcote. The manuscript ends with an account by Clapp of the Battle of Batoche. Original, 38 pages.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Clapp, Charles Salyer, 1864-1931 : Charles S. Clapp, the son of Phillip Clapp (1827-1882) and Sarah Van Tassell (1832-1925) was a resident of Belleville, Ont. A baker by occupation, he also served in the local militia unit from 1880 to 1902 in the 15th Battalion. During the Northwest Rebellion, Clapp served from March to July 1885, with "A" Company of the Midland Battalion, a composite unit commanded by Lt. Col. A.T.H. Williams.
"A" and "C" Companies of the Midland Battalion descended the South Saskatchewan River in the steamer Northcote from Saskatchewan Landing to near Fish Creek to reinforce General Middleton's brigade prior to the march on Batoche.
