Fonds consists of newspaper clippings, mostly of articles written by Campbell as a special correspondent commissioned by the PEOPLE'S JOURNAL of Scotland to travel with and report on Scottish emigration from Lewis, Argyll and the Isles in 1923; notes for a slide show of Campbell's 1823 tour of Canada by train in which he praised Canada as a place to emigrate; and a biographical profile of Campbell in a Canadian newspaper.

Campbell, R. W., 1883-1949 : Robert William Campbell, born in Alloa, Scotland in 1883, was a career soldier, author and lecturer who enlisted in the British Army at the age of 15 and served in the Boer War. He wrote his most widely known book PRIVATE SPUD TAMSON at the beginning of World War I. Campbell was a special overseas correspondent who reported on Scottish emigration to Canada.
