Collection consists of correspondence, clippings, prints and engraving relating to the career of James Wolfe, the capture of Quebec and monuments erected to Wolfe's memory; documents relating to the early history of Montreal.

Collection also consists of commentary notes on the Longueuil family and on the graves and headstones of St. Helen's Island Military Cemetery, Montreal 1884, 18 pages.

Also included are prints and photographs assembled in a scrapbook (1916), containing portraits, manuscripts, clippings and maps relating to Canadian history. Also included are reproductions of historical paintings of War of 1812 and other subjects.

Horn, John, 1837-1926 : John Horn (1837-1926) began work as a telegrapher operator in Montreal in 1852, ultimately having charge of the New York line. He later worked in New York City for several decades before returning to Montreal in 1886. Horn then devoted his time to journalism and writing, and particularly to describing the early history of Montreal.

Note générale :

Received in 1973 from the estate of Robert W. Reford of Montreal, Que. via the Canadian War Museum; and in 1951 from the Library of Parliament, Ottawa, Ont. The materials acquired from the estate of Robert W. Reford include clippings from gazettes of 1757-1760.

Material from the John Horn fonds (MG 55/29-No.28) has been added to this collection.

Magnifying glass once belonging to Wolfe, and an accompanying letter: Acquired by the Canadian War Museum from the estate of Robert W. Reford in 1972, and retained by the Museum when it transferred the Horn materials to the National Archives in 1973.
