A record of a May 1930 to October 1931 prospecting expedition to the Ungava region, undertaken for the C.W. Knight Prospecting Company. The members of the party included Kenneth G. Ellard of West Templeton, Quebec; John B. Racicot of Laverlochere, Quebec; Howard G. Pullan of Montreal; and R. Massey Williams of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who filmed the expedition. The four prospectors and First Nations guides, leave Coral Rapids on May 20, 1930, and travel to Moose Factory, Ontario, then to Eastmain, Quebec. They load a rail motor truck and travel by canoe on the Abitibi River. Sequences include scenes at Eastmain where they are greeted by the Cape Jones Island? Inuit settlement, at Whapmagoostui (formerly known as Great Whale River), and at Lac Tasiujaq (formerly known as Richmond Gulf). A snowy owl is held up by its wings. The party canoes, portages, and camps on the way to Kuujjuaq (formerly known as Fort Chimo). They go overland by the Stillwater, Larch and Kolsoak [sic] Rivers. Footage records activity around the Kuujjuaq (formerly known as Fort Chimo) Hudson's Bay Company store and at the George River post and the winter camp. Christmas is celebrated at the camp, and New Years at the post. Sequences show dog teams and games organized for the Inuit by the prospectors. Footage records winter trips to Port Burwell and Kuujjuaq (formerly known as Fort Chimo). Several Inuit accompany the party, one dies on the way and is given a funeral. Scenes of summer on the east coast of Ungava Bay include shots of Payne Bay, of travel on the Payne River, and of seal hunting. The trip is recapped and the men return home via Port Burwell on the S.S. Beothic. <1h 16mn 17s>
