Collection consists of an account of expenses incurred in 1816, by Alexander Auldjo in bringing Donald Ross, a road-paver from Glasgow, to Montreal; receipted by John Richardson, Commissioner for the Lachine Turnpike Road, 1816, 2 pages; and an account of Forsyth, Richardson and Company with Quarter Master Germain for sundry cloth and uniform accessories, 1791-1793, 1 page.

Forsyth, Richardson and Company : Forsyth, Richardson and Company, founded in 1790, was the Canadian subsidiary of the London house of Phyn, Ellice, and Company. Its chief partners were John Forsyth (1762-1837), and John Richardson (1755-1831).

The firm engaged in both the southwest and northwest fur trade and was associated at various periods with the North West and "XY" Companies. It was a major force in 1817, in the establishment of the Bank of Montreal, and it promoted the building of the Lachine Canal.

In 1824, the company became the sole Canadian agent of the East India Company and in 1826 it was appointed Financial Agent of the Province of Upper Canada - an agency the firm enjoyed for upwards of a quarter of a centry.
