This is an interview of federal Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament Gerald William Baldwin, of the Peace River, Alberta riding. The subject of the interview is Alberta Social Credit Premier Ernest C. Manning (1943-1968). When asked to explain Manning's phenomenal political success, Baldwin discusses the history of the Social Credit Party, the direct attacks on Manning made by the Opposition parties and the negligible effect this has on voters' positive feelings about Manning. Baldwin calls Manning a "remarkable man". Next, the interveiwer asks Baldwin if there will be a change in the Alberta provincial government. He replies that Peter Lougheed, leader of the provincial Progessive Conservative Party, is becoming popular. Baldwin doubts Manning would enter federal politics because the Social Credit Party has never formed a federal government and there is a little chance of a coalition between the Social Credit Party and one of the other federal political parties.
