Fonds consists of family papers, 1826-1926; papers of Thomas Moffatt, business, militia and miscellaneous papers, 1857-1927; and political papers, 1832-1834. The fonds also contains photographs related to Thomas Moffatt, the 41st Brockville Battalion of the Militia, 1865; two cartes-de visite; n.d.; a steam powered launch; and a military and civilian group, [ca. 1915].

Moffat (family) : Robert Moffat (fl. 1835-1847), was a merchant of Montreal and Perth, and County Clerk of Lanark and Renfrew. His wife, Ann Mowbray Wyse (Wioe) Moffat (fl. 1821-1871), was the daughter of Robert Wyse (d. 1822), a manufacturer and starcher of Glasgow Scotland.

The four children of Robert and Ann Moffat were Robert Moffat, a gentleman of Perth (fl. 1856-1895) and resigned as Clerk of the First Division Court, Lanark in 1870; John Moffat (d. 30 May 1871) of Toronto was a clerk with the Merchant Bank of Canada; Thomas Wyse Moffat of Perth (fl. 1856-1926) was a machinist, steamship master, owner and engineer, Captain of the 3rd Company Perth Rifles in the 41st "Brockville" Battalion of the Militia 1868; and Sarah Jane Moffat of Perth (fl. 1856-1927).
