Fonds consists of papers relating to McGillivray's arrest and imprisonment at Fort Wedderburn under a warrant of doubtful legality. Behind the incident was the rivalry of the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company, and the desire on the part of George Simpson, the HBC's chief trader in the area, to disrupt the North West Company's operations. The material consists of two volumes of eight and thirty-eight pages respectively.

McGillivray, Simon Jr., d. 1840 : Simon McGillivray was the son of Hon. William McGillivray (ca. 1764-1825) and nephew of Simon McGillivray (1783-1840). He entered the service of the North West Company as a clerk about 1803. He was employed for a number of years in the Athabasca department and was made a partner in the North West Company before the union of 1821. Made a chief trader in the Hudson's Bay Company in 1821, he spent most of the rest of his life at Hamilton Inlet, on the Labrador coast.
