Fonds consists of records of the Canadian Film Awards which are arranged into two series for each year, vols. 1-23. The Administrative series consists of C.F.A. committee records, correspondence, finances, arrangements and press clippings and releases. The Film series consists of files concerning the film entries, the process of selection and lists of winners. Some photographs accompany the entires.

The fonds also contains 74 photographs depicting scenes from documentaries broadcasted on CBC-TV.

Also included is film footage of the 1975 Canadian Film Awards and a film entitled The scribe.

There is also a poster advertising the "Palmarès du film canadien, 1973, 25e anniversaire, 8-12 octobre, Cinéma St-Denis, Montréal." In English, this item is in horizontal storage, container no. 24.

Canadian Film Awards : The Canadian Film Awards, founded in 1949, were sponsored jointly by the Canadian Association for Adult Education, Canadian Film Institute and the Canadian Foundation. Its objectives were to encourage high standards of film-making in Canada, to direct public attention to films which were made in Canada, to provide public recognition for the achievements of Canada film-makers and to encourage wider use of film by corporations, governments and other organizations.

The Canadian Film Awards were reorganized in 1967, and between 1969 and 1972 Gerald Pratley arranged for free showings of winning films across Canada. Previously held in Toronto, the annual awards were held in Montreal in 1973. A boycott that year by Quebec film-makers caused the awards to be cancelled in 1974, but they were re-instated in 1975. An international jury was established in 1977, but was eliminated in 1978.

Historique de la conservation :

The film The scribe was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975. The CFI received the material from the Canadian Film Awards in 1966. The National Archives received the rest of the material in 1974 and 1978 from the Canadian Film Awards.
