Fonds consists of subject files, scrapbooks, ledgers and account books; and minutes of meetings, reports and brochures. There is also a microfilm copy of a subject index to the Canadian Teachers' Federation papers for the years 1920 to 1960 prepared by the C.T.F. staff, microfilm reel C-10485. Photographic material depicts annual general meetings of the Canadian Teachers' Federation, 1958-1961 and 1963-1967. Sound recordings consist of proceedings of the National Education Association annual meeting.

Canadian Teachers' Federation : The Canadian Teachers' Federation was officially formed in 1920. One of its original objectives was to strengthen teacher bargaining positions, particularly in the Prairie provinces. Many joint ventures with provincial and foreign teachers associations have been initiated in such fields as public relations. The Canadian Education Week Movement was launched by the Federation in the 1930's. In recent years the Federation has concentrated on liaison with affiliates and wider dissemination to the public of information of concern to the teaching profession. It presents the views of its members to the federal government and encourages the application of federal funds for the support of education.

Note générale :

Material was received in 1970 and 1980 from Mr. Norman M. Goble, Secretary General; in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1984 from Ms. M. Moll, Program Assistant; in 1985 from Dr. Sterling McDowell, Secretary General of the Canadian Teachers' Federation; and in 1990, 1994, and 1997 from the Canadian Teachers' Federation.

Historique de la conservation :

The originals of the subject index were destroyed in Feb. 1977.
