A look at how the Inuit have found a new earning power through the marketing of soapstone sculptures. The focus is on Naiomaloak, an artist who lives on the east shore of Hudson Bay. He is seen shooting whale, spearing arctic char with kakival harpoon, and examining and carving stone with file, bow drill, and pen knife. His wife is seen hanging fish to dry. Another artist, Iput, arrives to show Naiomaloak a carving. The two artists trade carvings for food and dry goods at the Port Harrison, Québec Hudson's Bay Company post. At the post, James Houston of the Canadian Handcrafts Guild, who in 1948 introduced Inuit art to the world, examines several pieces of soapstone sculpture. The film closes with a community dance where Inuit, in sealskin boots, dance to recorded fiddle music. <4mn>
