This program records the 2nd Annual Canadian Cable Television Association Awards Ceremony, broadcast live via satellite from the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Diane Legris, Vice-President, CF Cable TV, hosts the event designed to honor industry's best community channel programming, marketing campaigns and excellence in engineering. The range of choices on cable TV is illustrated with clips from programs produced by: Monarch Cable TV Ltd. in Medicine Hat Alberta; Cablenet Ltd., Toronto, Ontario; Telecable Laurentian Inc., Hull, Quebec; Delta Cable Television Ltd., Delta, British Columbia; Le Groupe Videotron Ltee, Montreal, Quebec, and Avalon Cablevision Ltd., Corner Brook, Newfoundland. The host introduces guest panelists and Michael Hind-Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Cable Television Association (CCTA), who presents the award named after him honouring women of achievement in the cable industry to Elizabeth Duncan, General Manager, Dartmouth Cable TV. Clips of programs by award winners accompany presentation of awards in various categories for excellence in entertainment, promotion, event, youth, seniors, sports, current affairs/documentary, ethnic and education, followed, by awards for excellence in marketing under the categories of: acquisition, retention, public relations/communications, employee motivation, network cross-promotion, special projects and small systems. The awards for innovation in programming, marketing and engineering, which represent the highest peer recognition a cable company can achieve, are presented to Jim Declute, Vice-President of Marketing, CUC Limited, Scarborough, Ontario, and Tony Alblas, Vice-President, Engineering, Skyline Cablevision, Ottawa, Ontario.
