Fonds consists of minutes of meetings of the Women's Institute of Saltfleet (later the Women's Institute of South Wentworth), held at Stoney Creek and other centres. Included are the constitution, by-laws, membership lists, and information on activities, vols. 1-2, photocopies, 228 pages. The papers also include a historical sketch of the Stoney Creek Women's Institute, vol. 2, photocopies, 2 pages.

Women's Institute of Stoney Creek : The first Women's Institute in Canada was founded at Stoney Creek, Wentworth County, in 1897. At its inception it was called the Women's Institute of Saltfleet, but the name was subsequently changed to the Women's Institute of South Wentworth. A historical sketch, written in 1921, used the title "Stoney Creek Women's Institute". The objects of the Institute were the study by farm women of home management and better methods of sanitation. Similar organizations of rural women soon sprang up elsewhere in Ontario, and subsequently in other provinces and other parts of the world.
