The orders indicate the course of the campaign and give details regarding the conduct of operations.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Boulton, Major, 1841-1899 : Charles Arkoll Boulton was born in Cobourg, Ont. He served in the 100th Prince of Wales, Royal Canadian Regiment, from 1858 to 1868, retiring with the rank of Captain. He then served as Major in the 46th (East Durham) Battalion of Militia, from 1868 to 1881, and went with Col. J.S. Dennis to the Northwest Territories in 1869, where he was captured by the Métis in 1870. He later became a farmer at Shellmouth, Manitoba. In 1885 he commanded Boulton's Scouts of the North West Field Force. He was the author of REMINISCENCES OF THE NORTH WEST REBELLION (Toronto: 1886).

It began in 1884, when Louis Riel returned to Canada to advocate for the rights of the Métis of Saskatchewan and formed a provisional government. Riel led an armed insurgency, fought mainly by Métis and some First Nations allies.
