General note:

Accession consists of lighthouse records created for the most part by the Department of Transport. The files were transferred to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans when Coast Guard was transferred there in 1995/96 where they were maintained until their transfer to LAC. The files have kept their classification numbers according to the old Department of Transport filing system, 8010 - AIDS TO NAVIGATION - Fixed Structures - Establishment & Operation. These files document the establishment, construction, daily operations, maintenance, repairs, alterations, and the dis-establishment of aids installed on a fixed structure. They can include contracts and tenders, correspondence, reports, logs, records of purchases, and photographs. Based on the prefix attached to the files (AWA), these files are headquarters files, not regional.
