The fonds is comprised primarily of documents relating to the work and accomplishments of Murray Calder Hendry (1881-1951), a civil hydraulic engineer who worked on a number of large Canadian hydro projects in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. The bulk of the collection documents the Hendry family, in particular the life and career of Murray Calder Hendry, the uncle of the donor's husband. Art includes 2 etchings of Chambly, Quebec by Robert Wakeham Pilot, a step-son of Maurice Cullen who was acquainted with Rickson Albert Outhet Murray's brother-in-law. This is important because some items in the collection come from this branch of the family being passed down to the donor's husband, Murray McClaren Outhet. Other documents were passed down to the donor's husband from Murray Calder Hendry. Other prints include a letterhead wood engraving of The Royal George Hotel, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and a blueprint related to M. C. Hendry's work, and 99 largely Canadian family postcards. Included are 2 cabinet photographic portraits: Andrew Hendry Family Portrait, [Dufresne Arcade Photo Studio, Toronto], ca. 1986; and Murray Calder Hendry, as a young boy, [Ewing Studio, Parkdale, Toronto], ca. 1892. Textual items include M.C. Hendry's personal records: school certificates, family histories, clippings and photocopies; and business records: letters, a work order, a daily journal with notes inserted; and support documents.

Documents originally in the custody of Murray Calder Hendry, were left to his brother-in-law's son: Murray McClaren Outhet, who married the donor: Mrs. Harriet Outhet.
