Description:

Documentary film chronicling the second historic voyage of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police schooner, the St. Roch, "the first ship in history to circumnavigate North America", as it sails from Vancouver to Halifax through the Panama Canal. Opening footage shows the St. Roch undergoing refitting and preparation in drydock in Esquimalt. Extensive views of heavy seas, icebergs and marine wildlife filmed from the St. Roch. Also seen is footage of shipboard life and several ports-of-call including San Francisco, San Diego and Acapulco. The voyage through the canal includes footage of Balboa, the ruins of Panama City and Gatun Lake. Closing segments focus on New York harbour and Halifax harbour, the St. Roch's final destination. <17mn>
