The Clerk of the House invites each Member of Parliament to make an appointment to be sworn in and sign the Test Roll, a book whose pages are headed by the text of the oath or affirmation, prior to the opening day of the new Parliament. The Test Roll is signed by the member in witness to his or her having taken the oath of allegiance as required by the Constitution Act, 1867 or made the solemn affirmation.
