Description:

Bill Galloway hosts the program which shows black and white National Archives footage of Associated Screen News films from 1932 to 1940. 1) KINGDOM FOR A HORSE, directed by Gordon Sparling in 1935, displays various types of horses and their careers. Narrator Dobin, a "rag" horse, describes his relatives: a show horse, polo pony, race track horse, fox hunt horse, rodeo horse, sulky racer, and the horses used to pull fire wagons prior to 1935. It includes footage of fire horses racing to a fire in Montreal, and the King's Plate in Toronto. 2) GREY OWL'S LITTLE BROTHER, depicts the life of Archibald Belaney, an Englishman who lived in the Canadian wilderness disguised as an Indian. Known as "Grey Owl", he worked for the preservation of wildlife, notably the beaver. The film, released in 1932, is the combination of two silent films produced by the National Parks of Canada, THE BEAVER PEOPLE and THE BEAVER FAMILY. 3) Canadian Cameo Series: shows glass Japanese fishing globes that have travelled across the Pacific and washed upon the shores of British Columbia; a Scottish Castle built by an Ontario farmer in Caledon, Ontario; and a famous tree in Stanley Park, British Columbia, that has grown seventy-five feet in height with its roots in a fallen tree ten feet above the ground. <30mn>
