6 prints : b&w lithographs.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of moving images including fifty-three episodes of Pic's pick produced by Pickergill in 1975 for the Global Television network along with a pilot for the series that was never broadcast. The series consists of animated news stories in one minute episodes. Issues dealt with include: the postal strike, wage and price controls, the gasoline tax, US-Israeli relations and the personality of Prime Minister Trudeau. The fonds also includes the short film Halibut York. This short children's tale represents the first artistic collaboration between Pickersgill and Peter Desbarats, then Global Television's Ottawa Bureau Chief. Desbarats wrote the story while Pickergill illustrated it and shot the footage.
Also included in fonds are other artworks by Peter Pickersgill consisting of 951 editorial cartoons on a wide variety of local, provincial, national and international topics, as well as 6 lithographs which focus on the architecture of rural Newfoundland. Graphic material has been divided into a separate series entitled Cartoon drawings.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Pickersgill, Peter, 1945- : Pic is the pen name of Peter Pickersgill. Pickersgill was born in 1945 and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1971. He has worked as an editorial cartoonist for the Montreal Star, the Vancouver Sun, and the Ottawa Citizen. He has lived in Ottawa on and off since 1972, and is now a free-lance cartoonist who syndicates his work.
