Canada. Road and Motor Vehicle Traffic Safety Branch : With the numbers of traffic accident deaths steadily rising, a 1965 House of Commons Standing Committee proposed that the federal government, through Transport Canada, should examine, inspect and provide advice to ensure proper safety regulations for road and motor vehicles. The Canadian Government Specifications Board was struck shortly thereafter and its mandate was transferred to the newly created Road and Motor Vehicle Traffic Safety in 1968. By 1970, Road and Motor Vehicle Traffic Safety was a directorate within Canadian Surface Transportation Administration.
