Depending on the number of claims reported from each parish, the returns are generally organized under four headings: Métis children over the age of 18; Métis children under the age of 18; Métis heads of family; and heirs to each of the above classes of claimants. Within each section, the claimants are listed in alphabetical order, with each entry providing a description of the claimants's occupation. In the case of minors, the father's name and the date of the claimant's 18th birthday are usually also recorded; and in the case of heirs, the proportion of the inheritance is noted.
