He remained in Norway until April, 1940, when Germany invaded that country. He fled to Britain, where he was interned. In June 1940, he and other British internees were shipped to Canada. In Canada, he remained in internment until November 1943, when the internment camps were closed. He was sent back to Britain, where he worked as a bookkeeper. Becoming a British citizen in 1949, he returned to Canada in 1950. Interested in history, he read widely in the field and in the meantime worked at a variety of odd jobs, be this as taxi driver or any other. "Faith and Utopia in the Twentieth Century", an unpublished manuscript, which includes observations on his own experiences as emigré and internee, is the product of his historical research. Bernhard Pfundt passed away on April 22nd, 2007.Additional information:General note:Originals received and photocopies prepared in 1988 from originals in the possession of Bernhard Pfundt of Hull, Quebec.Arrangement note:The letters are arranged in chronological order and the manuscript by page and volume number.Language note:Three letters are in German.
