The register contains a nominal index as well as the name of persons who where confirmed and have their first communion between 1861 and 1948. Father Petitot, who was at the Fort Good Hope Mission from 1864 to 1873 and from 1876 to 1878, is beleived to have begun this genealogy register around 1864. The register was updated periodically by Father Petitot's successors, until the 1940s. This material is located on microfilm reel M-8718.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Oblates-of-Mary-Immaculate : The Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a congregation of the Catholic Church, was founded in France on the 2 October 1815 by Charles-Joseph-Eugène de Mazenod. In 1841, the Oblates came to Canada to evangelize and introduce Christianity to the native people. The Fort Good Hope Mission was established by Father Pierre-Henri Grollier in 1859, at the location of a Hudson's Bay Company trading post. At his death on the 4 June 1864, he was replaced by Father Émile Petitot, from 1864 to 1873 and from 1876 to 1878. In 1991, the register was sent to the National Archives of Canada for conservation treatment and microfilming. A microfilm copy was produced for the Northwest Territories Archives and the original register was returned to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mackenzie, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.Source:Private -
