Canadian Army. Canadian War Crimes Investigation Unit, 1 : This unit was formed under the authority of Canadian Military Headquarters, London, on 4 June 1945, and ceased to function on 31 May 1946. The Headquarters and one investigating detachment was stationed in the European theatre of operations. The unit was instructed to undertake the investigation of all cases of war crimes reported against Canadian nationals and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and to prepare cases for trial in which sufficient evidence was available.
