The records include petitions for citizenship (with oaths of residence and allegiance) and naturalization certificates issued by a Justice of the Peace authorized to take oaths under the Naturalization Act (1857-1916). These records usually contain the name, age, residence, former residence, length of residence in Canada and occupation of the petitioners.
