NAPO serves as the voice of low-income Canadians, and works to ensure that the views of poor people are considered during debates about national issues of importance to them. It fulfils this mandate by initiating action-oriented research on a variety of issues, and prepares and submits briefs to federal committees, task forces, and commissions.
A voluntary Board of Directors from every province and region of the country directs and governs NAPO's work. At least three-quarters of NAPO Board members have had first-hand experience with poverty; most are women, and many are sole-support mothers.Additional information:General note:Donated by Rosemary Spendlove of Ottawa in 1992.
