They relate to all aspects of War Office business. The National Archives has acquired microfilm and photocopies of miscellaneous subject files covering a number of diverse military questions relating to Canada, 1848-1913. Subjects include: the defences of Canada; the raising of Canadian troops for Imperial service; military lands; the Red River and Nile expeditions; designations and accoutrements of Canadian militia units; the relationship of the Canadian militia to the British army; Royal Military College, Kingston; Esquimalt and Halifax bases; the service of enrolled pensioners at Fort Garry; royal salutes in Canada; and imperial military expenditure in Canada.
