Finding aid Textual records (Electronic) Finding Aid 1800 has four parts. First is the Preliminary Inventory to Record Group 8, British Military and Naval Records, as published in 1954, supplemented by typescript lists of additions to 1977. Second is a conversion list which correlates the "C" Series volume numbers with the microfilm reel numbers (also prefixed "C"). Third is a copy of E. Cruikshank's Inventory to the Military Documents in the Canadian Archives, published in 1910, with annotations of volumes added to the series or transferred to RGs 7 and 9 on creation of the Record Groups. Cartographic material comprised of the following accessions: RG8M 80103/37 consists of consists of property listings and drawings of military holdings vested in the Secretary of State for War, in the cities of Montreal and Quebec, by the Royal Engineer Canada Command; RG8M 84503/34 consists of plans, indexes and statements of property vested in the Secretary of State for War in Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island within the Royal Engineer Command, prepared by the Royal Engineers.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:British Military and Naval Records. "C" Series : The "C" Series consists of 2020 volumes of records accumulated by the British forces stationed in Canada from 1759 until 1906, as well as sundry military records attached to this series for the convenience of researchers. The origins of the Series and the arrangement of volumes within it are described in the Introduction to the Preliminary Inventory (see FA 1800).
