Rowley Booth and other members of the family; periodicals and miscellaneous items, 1880-1964, 1923-1966, 10 cm; and newspaper clippings, n.d., 1896-1975, 5 cm.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Booth (Family) : John Rudolphus Booth, sawmill owners, who has been called "the Dean of Canadian Lumbermen", was born in Waterloo, Quebec in 1827. His first major contract was for the lumber for the Parliament Buildings in 1859. By 1892 his mills turned out more lumber than anyone else's in the world. Booth constructed the Canada Atlantic Railway (as well as the Ottawa and Parry Sound Railway through Algonquin Park) from 1879-1882 and was its owner until 1904. His son, C. Jackson, carried on the family business after John R's death in 1925 until his own demise in 1947.
