The entries are more extensive than is usual in post journals and a fair copy of entries for the period 1849-1851 is included with the original.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Fort Selkirk (Yukon) : Fort Selkirk was built at the forks of the Lewis (Yukon) and Pelly Rivers in 1848 by Robert Campbell, then master of the fort at Pelly Banks, and operated as a subsidiary of that fort. Campbell, a Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) employee, attempted to develop a trade partnership with the Northern Tutchone. Feeling undermined, the coastal Chilkat Tlingit, Northern Tutchone's primary trade partner, looted and vandalized Fort Selkirk in August 1852. Fort Selkirk likely burned down several years later.Additional information:Custodial history:Received in 1929 from W.
