34 mapsLanguage of material:EnglishAdded language of material:English, FrenchAdditional information:General note:This accession consists of technical drawings, plans and charts related to the maintenance and improvements to the Rideau Canal (Ontario), Trent Canal (Ontario), Lachine Canal (Quebec), Chambly Canal (Quebec), Ste-Anne's Canal and St. Peters Canal (Nova Scotia) created between [1910-1925] and 1961-1979. The National and Historic Parks Branch (Ontario Region), Canals Division of Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) created and/or maintained these records as part of its Conservation Program operations. On April 1, 1973, DIAND formally took over all functional responsibilities of the canal systems previously operated by the Marine Services, Canals Division of the Department of Transport.Arrangement note:The arrangement of the drawings follows an alphanumeric file numbering system with each file number composed of three parts. The primary part identifies the canal system or waterway, the secondary part identifies the subject, and the tertiary part identifies the location or project within the canal system.
