Finding aid Textual records (Paper) The finding aid is comprised of two parts, S.P.G. Papers in the Lambeth Palace Library, Calendar and Indexes, compiled by W.W. Manross, and a shelf list of the material available at the NA. MSS1425 (99: Closed pending processing)Textual records (Paper) The Manross Calendar provides descriptions of the material in Volumes 1 to 17, an index to the names and topics referred to in the Calendar's summaries, and another index to names appearing in the documents, but not mentioned in the summaries. Similarly, pages 32-38 of the Calendar include a useful index to the reports of the missionaries and parishes which appear in the minutes, 1736-1750 (Volumes 3-5). (99: Closed pending processing)Textual records (Electronic) The P.A.C.'s shelf list provides a list of material available and includes a description and outside dates. It also correlates the Lambeth Palace Library's references with the descriptions in the Manross Calendar and with P.A.C.'s microfilm reel numbers. The General Index contains references to material relating to Canada prepared from the descriptions in the Manross Calendar for Volumes 1-5, 10 and 11, ff. 1-152. The material relating to Canada pertains mainly to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and includes notices of appointment of missionaries, arrangements regarding their salaries, abstracts of their reports, in the minutes, volumes 1-5; correspondence and other papers, volume 11.Biography/Administrative history:Lambeth Palace Library, Society for the Propagation of the Gospel : Lambeth Palace Library, which contains the records of the Archbishops of Canterbury, includes some of the earliest records of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (S.P.G.). These early records of the S.P.G. were probably deposited with Archbishop Tenison, the president of the society, before the S.P.G. had any headquarters of its own.
