Mamen, Bjarne, 1891-1914 : Bjarne Mamen was born in Fredrickhald, Norway. He was the youngest member of the Canadian Arctic Expedition, Mamen attended Smaalence College of forestry, studying geology, forestry and surveying, from 1908-1910. He worked as a civil engineer, serving as Assistant Topographer on the Norwegian Spitzbergen Expedition in 1912, and joined the Canadian Arctic Expedition as a Topographer. Mamen was among the party which left the stranded Karluk, and successfully reached Wrangel Island. He accidently shot himself and died at Rogers Harbour.
