Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Office of Science and Technology (OST) of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (ITC), as well as the predecessor Office of the Industrial Research Adviser (IRA) in the Department of Industry.

Subjects cover industrial research generally (including technology transfer and committees), science and technology missions to other countries (including the Canada/USSR Mixed Commission and its working groups), departmental programs, and studies.

Specific departmental programs covered in this accession include the Industrial Design Assistance Program (IDAP), the Program to Enhance Productivity (PEP), and the Program for the Advancement of Industrial Technology (PAIT).

Records are filed according to a registry system used by DOI in the 1960s. When DOI was succeeded by ITC in April 1969, it continued using the DOI registry until around 1973.
