The records consist predominately of logbooks that document surveying work (observations, reconnaissance, observation posts, calculations) conducted on various work expeditions in Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Newfoundland from the 1910s to the 1940s.
The photographs depict surveying work and members of the survey parties. The fonds also includes a copy of an obituary for Mr. Dennis.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Dennis, William Melbern, 1885-1976 : William Melbern Dennis was born in 1885 in Prince Edward Island. He graduated from McGill University and was appointed a surveyor with the Geodetic Survey in 1911. He continued in surveying until the late 1940s.
