The Chief of Staff held many roles and responsibilities such as briefing and advising the Prime Minister; overseeing the day-to-day administration of the PMO, including the budget and the staffing; ensuring that all departments within PMO operated smoothly and efficiently as a team; and liaising with the caucus, ministers and their chiefs of staff, and other senior members of the government. Four people held the position of Chief of Staff under Prime Minister Stephen Harper: Ian Brodie (2006-2008), Guy Giorno (2008-2010), Nigel S. Wright (2011-2013) and Raymond ("Ray") Novak (2013-2015).
