Title based on the following caption from the NFB Photo Story: Jackson served overseas in World War I as an army private and later as a War Artist. On his return to Canada he settled in Toronto where he helped found the Group of Seven in 1920. An energetic and intrepid explorer of the Canadian scene, Jackson early turned his attention northwards . . . to the pine and sumac fringed lakes of the Georgian Bay area. He made several trips deep into the Arctic circle in search of material for his strongly-patterned boldly executed paintings.
