Title based on the following caption from the NFB Photo Story: Though early French settlers of the sixteenth century are known to have produced some raw leaf pipe tobacco, large scale tobacco farming in Canada is a development of the last 25 years. To-day, tobacco is of increasing economic importance, netting the farmer $80,000,000 in 1954. In the same year approximately 22,113,102,000 Canadian manufactured cigarettes were consumed in the country. Here, workers are shown storing cured virginia [sic] cigarette tobacco in a Quebec pack barn in preparation for a visit by buyers.
