Inmate case records are created upon arrival of an inmate at a federal penal institution. They are made up from the inmate admission form and from other documentation. The inmate is given an identification number by an institution and this number becomes the file number of the individual concerned. The file created is the inmate's original record and it follows him from institution to institution. In addition to the inmate case records, hospital or medical files, psychological and psychiatric records, and the like, are placed in the inmates case file after their release.
Case files consisting of correspondence, admission forms, dental records, medical reports, psychiatric and psycho logical assessments. Also, material relating to trades or education and information on the conduct, parole or release of an inmate. The records are arranged by FPS Number (Fingerprint System) and the birthdate of most inmates is included on the list.
