The Fellowship and Awards Division is one of the seven programme divisions within the International Development Research Centre. The role of this division is to work with the other programme divisions to award grants and fellowships to researchers and research administrators as part of the Centre's mandate to increase the research capacity of less developed countries. In doing this the Fellowships and Awards Division has five basic programme areas: Training for Project Development; Training for Programme Development; Training for Institutional Development; Specialized Training; and Training for careers in Development., The records in this accession consist mainly of files of individual recipients of grants and awards from the Fellowship and Awards Division. They cover those individuals receiving assistance between 1971 and 1985. A file on an individual usually consists of two file parts, one outlining the fellowship and award process, from application to completion, and the other dealing with the financial aspects of the assistance. There are also files in this accession from the various selection committees set up to administer these grants each year.
