The Secretariat, headed by the Deputy Solicitor General, is responsible for developing and co-ordinating policies and programs of the Ministry concerning criminal justice, juvenile justice, corrections, police and security. Policies may be developed by the Secretariat that effect both federal and provincial jurisdiction in these areas. The records consist of research and consultations projects on a wide range of topics including: gun control, young offenders, parole, classifications, alternatives to incarceration, probation, sentencing, natives, the criminal justice system, policing and law enforcement, corrections and related subjects.
