This sub-series documents Paul Martin's activities as a speaker between June 2002 and December 2003. It contains a comprehensive series of the original speeches and drafts of speeches (with strikethroughs and annotations) that he gave when he was campaigning to become the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. Among the speeches included in this sub series are his speech supporting the Kyoto Protocol, given at the debate on ratification by Canada in December 2002; the speech that officially launched his campaign for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada on April 27, 2003; speeches on the funding of his leadership campaign and on Canada Steamship Lines; and speeches on his various campaign themes, including health, economic development, Aboriginals and democratic reform. This sub-series also includes the first speech that he gave as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, on November 14, 2003, at the Liberal Party leadership convention in Toronto.
