Scope and content:

The series consists of the office files of J. Roby Kidd, the first Secretary-General of the International Council for Adult Education; Budd Hall, a program officer and Kidd's successor as Secretary-General; and other ICAE program officers, including Margaret Gayfer and Yusuf Kassam. J. Roby Kidd's files contain a large selection of his personal material on adult education from before the founding of the ICAE in 1973, including correspondence, manuscripts, publications, research and conference materials. His ICAE material includes a correspondence series organized geographically by country, which is most extensive for Canada, but otherwise ranges from Chile to New Zealand. There are also speeches, articles and other writings by Kidd; records of his travels and representation of ICAE; notes on the history of the ICAE; and material relating to his memorial service. The Budd Hall files document, in particular, his participation in literacy and poverty programs in Latin America and include chronological correspondence files for a few years. Margaret Gayfer's files show her involvement in preparing for annual Board meetings and also hold chronological correspondence. There are a few files on Yusuf Kassam trips to Europe and Africa for the ICAE. In addition, the series includes selected publications from the ICAE library and 55 photographs (volume 46) of the 1978 Salzburg Seminar in American Studies (on Continuing Education).

There is overlap between this series and the Programs and Projects series which includes the records of program officers, particularly Margaret Gayfer's files, and, of course, overlap with the Archives series.
