This map is a slightly less-detailed copy of the original 1875 map. It depicts the parish of Portage la Prairie, west along the Assiniboine River from present-day Winnipeg. This map shows and numbers lots. Some physical features are shown and some others' names appear. As is typical of Métis settlements, the land was divided into long and narrow river lots. This map shows the development of the square lot system of later settlers around and over the pre-existing river lot system. The Anglican parish of Portage la Prairie was initially established under the name of St. Mary's la Prairie in the early 1850s.

In the lower right corner is a note which reads: "acreage, chainage and bearings checked against photolithographed version, 13th Mar./31. JAD."

For more maps on the Assiniboine River and the University of Manitoba, see the series for the 510 and 540 classifications., There are four versions of this map. The first version (NMC98460, Mikan/item number 4158030) shows sub-division of lots with owners' names and Fiat numbers. Highways transferred to the Province and Orders-in-Council numbers relating to the transfer are mentioned. The stamp of the Technical Division, Dominion Lands administration, dated 25-7-30, contains the signature of J.T. Chalifour. A pencilled note signed by A.G. Brown, April 18, 1931, also appears.

This is the second version. It is not as detailed as the first - no owners' names appear on lots south of the Assiniboine.

The third version (NMC23461, Mikan/item number 4159933) shows and numbers lots. Some physical features are shown and some lot owners' names appear. The stamp of the Department of Public Works appears in lower left corner and the numeral "9" as a manuscript feature in upper right.

The fourth version (NMC23462, Mikan/item number 4170484) is a photoversion of a map bearing the same imprint as the third but showing lands granted to the University of Manitoba. These areas have been coloured red.
