Record Information – DetailsDate(s):.Place:[London]:Place of creation:CanadaPublisher:Patrick Mackellar,Extent:3 maps : ms. col. ; 46 x 35 cm.Language of material:EnglishAdditional name(s):Additional information:General Note:Origin: B.O. Z29/3, The three copies have several small differences.
The map is based on Bellin's plan of Quebec, in Charlevoix's Histoire et description générale de la Nouvelle-France, 1744. Eleven additions, which are listed, were added to Bellin's plan. Addition 4 is dated 1756 on Version A and C, and 1757 on Version B.
Version A is probably the original and bears MacKellar's signature, who drew this plan following his detention in Quebec City in 1756.
Version B bears a transcript of MacKellar's signature.
Version C is 3.5 cm longer than the others. It does not bear the signature of Mackellar and spells additions with two "t's".
The British used a plan of Quebec nearly forty years old when they set out to take the city. The fortifications shown on these maps had been greatly expanded by 1759.
All 3 versions of the plan bear the following numbers: "Z/29/3" in the upper right, "112" in the lower left and "B:19:F:64" in the lower right, and bear the "B.O." stamp.
