Item consists of a birchbark box with diamonds decorations. The box is one of four birchbark boxes each with decorations of a card suit. The birchbark boxes were made for the tourist industry possibly by nuns in Quebec.

General Note:

The boxes were collected by Henry Powell (died 1815) who was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 53rd Regiment of Foot during the American War of Independence and was stationed in the Niagara region for several years, returning to England in 1789. His great niece, Henrietta Maria Powell married George Cartwright (son of Edmund Cartwright) in 1836.
